The Professional Golf Assosiation of Israel, the governing body for professional golf in Israel, held a trial for players and teachers at the Gaash Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday. In order to retain their membership of PGA Israel, participants must play to less than a set maximum handicap. Andy Nemiroff produced the two best results of the two-day trial, scoring 68 and 64 (gross score without deducting of any handicap) on the par 70 course.
PGA Israel was registered as a non-profit organization in September 2007. According to Basil Katz, president of PGA Israel, "the standard of golf in Israel is directly attributable to the teachers. It is therefore understandable that the responsibility of the PGA of Israel is to ensure that the level of the teachers and players is high. To this end the members have to prove their playing proficiency." Later this year, Israel`s PGA teaching proficiency will be put to the test when the PGA of Europe, of which Israel PGA is a member, will send a very high level instructor to asses our level.
